Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)

Under the direction of the Cardiopulmonary Director, the Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for providing clinical respiratory and cardiopulmonary procedures for patients according to defined policies and procedures of the department and the hospital. He / she is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the needs of the patient.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Inspect, clean, and test respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Determine requirements for treatment; type, method and duration of therapy based on physicians' orders.
  • Set up and operate mechanical and therapeutic devices following specified parameters of treatment.
  • Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy; vital signs, arterial blood gases and blood chemistry changes and consult with physician if adverse reactions occur.
  • Maintain patient charts with therapy information.


Minimum Education: Graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care Practitioners.

Minimum Experience: Previous experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in an acute hospital setting preferred. 

Req. Certification/Licensure: Registered, certified or certified eligible by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the State of California. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, PALS required at both locations Norwalk and LA Community. NRP certificate required at LA Community only.
