Monitor Tech

 The Monitor Tech performs all activities related to cardia rhythm monitoring, including arrhythmia detection, basic interpretation, communicating information appropriately and record keeping. The Monitor Tech may also be responsible for clerical duties on the patient care unit, promoting an efficient, cooperative and effective environment.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Assures that patient charts have appropriate forms, including assembling new chart within 30 minutes of admission.
  • Maintains accurate patient census at beginning and end of shift and documents all admissions, transfers, discharges and expirations.
  • Monitors clerical and supply needs of department.
  • Assesses proper and safe functioning of all equipment used to perform role and notifies proper personnel for repairs.
  • Coordinates patient activities (i.e., transportations to other departments).
  • Collects information regarding potential admissions and discharges and communicates it to the Charge Nurse / Team Leader.
  • Prioritizes order transcription and other work duties according to patient and/or department needs.
  • Seeks clarification of orders from appropriate personnel.
  • Communicates and clarifies outstanding orders / patient care activities to the Charge Nurse.
  • Communicates with patient via the nurse call system and directs requests to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains accurate unit specific logs as directed.
  • The Monitor Technician will utilize his / her knowledge to assure age specific care for the adolescent, as well as the adult and geriatric patient (e.g., the adolescent heart rate ranges from 55-105 and respiratory rate from 12-20).


Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School graduate or equivalent; Completion of arrhythmia recognition course.

Minimum Experience: Six (6) months experience as monitor technician in an acute care facility, preferred. Six (6) months Unit Secretary experience, preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Arrhythmia course completion certificate. Current American Heart Association (BLS) Certification.
