Director of Infection Control and Prevention

The Director of Infection Control and Prevention coordinates, plans, directs and evaluates policies and procedure to control and prevent infection throughout Southern California Hospital at Culver City. Collaborates with Los Angeles County Health Department and the Physician Chairperson of the Infection Control Committee in the ongoing surveillance and prevention of all communicable diseases. Provides ongoing education to all staff on Infection Prevention issues. Functions as the hospital Infection Prevention advisor to all necessary hospital committees.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plans, directs and coordinates all operational activities for areas of responsibility. 
  • Develops policies and procedures as well as the quality improvement programs for areas of responsibility.  Develops the capital and operating budgets in areas of responsibility. 
  • Ensures areas of responsibility are appropriately staffed by hiring and retaining competent staff.
  • Makes a significant contribution to the public's perception of the hospital. 
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for development and enforcement of policies and procedures that ensure quality patient care.  Responsible for ensuring adequate Human Resources are available in areas of responsibility. 
  • Responsible for maintaining acceptable turnover in areas of responsibility. 
  • Ensures operations run within budgetary guidelines. 
  • Responsible for positive employee engagement and appropriate communication with staff. 
  • Responsible for quality and performance improvement activities in department and multidisciplinary. 
  • Responsible for positive customer satisfaction results.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines as set by federal, state, local and other agencies. 
  • Facilitates positive productive relationships with physicians. 


Qualifications

Minimum Education:  BSN Degree in Nursing and/or certification as a CLS, specializing in Microbiology and/or an MPH from an accredited School of Public Health. Specific training in Public Health and Infectious Diseases through an accredited graduate degree program and/or through a CDC approved infection control training program.

Minimum Experience:  Five (5) years acute care experience in Nursing or in Microbiology in an acute care setting; two (2) years experience as an Infection Control Coordinator.

Req. Certification/Licensure:  Current CA RN license or CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist, and/or an MPH in infectious disease epidemiology from an accredited School of Public Health.
